Report on 24/7 service

In production, going well. Finnish replacement under discussion: 5-6 people. Tool works, but still under active development.

Change of personnel

Ulf Tigerstedt left CSC and thus NeIC, replacement has been found in Ville Salmela at CSC.

Nordic MoU next steps

AP Oxana: Update Table 2 (or reference to it). AP Michaela: add footnote on ToR for NLCG committee meeting.

AP Michaela: request input on Norwegian extra statement.

AP Michaela: prepare accompanying letter and send out reworked MoU proposal to funding agency representatives and everyone invited to today’s meeting https://wiki.neic.no/wiki/180313-NOSC-meeting with a fixed 6 weeks for comment deadline

Not duplicating CERN MoU

No further revision through NLCG needed at the moment.

Swedish in-kind contribution

LHCK (Swedish LHC Consortia) meeting in Lund: Oxana was asked to provide input for this meeting, and also Kine was asked. Overhead is included.

Negotiations between Swedish WLCG group and SNIC seem to go well.

AP maswan to send caela logfile of related discussion on Feb 9th.

Systemic Change and Sustainability considerations

https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1y_hqorFc8ZMMi5-EwmGvW1dWqqfBpYkHilWAYxJhbSg/edit?usp=sharing especially slide 4.

Several aspects:

  • ARC adoption going from scaling up to systemic change
  • NT1 operation in itself: with EISCAT_3D we head into scaling
  • Being oriented towards large data volumes: not tomorrow that several RIs are in the same state, but technology could also scale up.

Systemic change would be:

  • Research in Nordic countries not running at local HPC clusters at research organisations.
  • Data stored in big long-term (Nordic) facilities/data lake, instead of researcher’s local systems
  • Active Open Source and Open Source processes promotion (NDGF was a major party to the licensing of dCache under a Open Source license)

AOB

  • Requested ALICE Fair Share document from ALICE as result of NLCG discussion.
  • Hope for improvement of the ALICE tape pledge issue, might still not be fixed this year (unclear timeline).
  • LHC is expected to run with 20% higher luminosity this year! (corresponding to how much more data?, but certainly 20% more work (e.g. data reduction) at CERN with possibility to load this off to Tier-1s.
  • WLCG overview board: Ian Bearden suggested as new Nordic representative (represented DK in the past), but Ian haven’t come back yet.
  • Suggested new regular item: Change of personnel
  • Rucio might become the chosen data catalog by EISCAT_3D
