Investigating options for future NT1 operations SG 16-6. Agenda and previous minutes
Agenda is approved, as well as last meeting minutes.
Investigating options for future NT1 operations SG 16-7. Progress update report
The project manager reports on the progress so far:
Many people have been contacted to collect relevant information for the project since last meeting. The information received is complete enough for the project (except a few details that are being discussed/collected).
J. Flix has estimated the (2015) cost to run and operate the NT1 in all of the countries, from information gathered from the PIs, sites, and estimating some of other costs. Also, the contributions from the projects and in-kind contributions from the sites are displayed. Different categories are used, such as hardware expenses, electricity costs, infrastructure and general services, maintenance and repairs, network, and personnel and travels.
Additionally, a model has been deployed in order to know how expensive it would be to run the NT1 in a single (traditional T1) site. Also, an intermediate model where only 1 HPC cluster is used per country is being developed.
The results obtained are compared to the PIC Tier1 site (Spain), which is approx. of the same size as the NT1 (PIC Tier1 is ~10% bigger, in terms of deployed resources).
These findings, together with the performance evaluation of the current NT1 configuration, are the seed for the report, which is being drafted at this moment.
Investigating options for future NT1 operations SG 16-8. Timetable update
Project manager informs that it is realistic to have conclusions by the June board meeting.
Decision:
The SG expect the project manager to deliver the report in time for the June board meeting. J. Flix should start preparing the trip to Iceland and delivering the final report in advance (deadline set to be the 25th of May). Before the 10th, a draft should be available and circulated.
Investigating options for future NT1 operations SG 16-9. Board meeting planning
Decision:
Since it is realistic to have conclusions by the June board meeting, it is decided that J. Flix starts booking for Iceland NeIC board meeting. See SG-18 point.
Investigating options for future NT1 operations SG 16-10. Decision to continue/modify/terminate project
Decision:
The steering group decides to continue the project.

Next meeting time
Discussion:
Project manager informs that the next couple of weeks will be very active with big progress towards the final project delivery, so it might be good to have another meeting before the final presentation.
Decision:
Reserved a time slot on Tuesday 2016-05-24 +15:00 for an rather short steering group meeting. J. Flix asked to present the draft at the next NLCG-committee that will occur in the 19th (afternoon).
