Information policy
This page describes policy for accounts, groups, content and use for the various wikis that are run by NeIC. It may be extended to other channels and platforms as well.
The NeIC Community
Having explicit and up to date lists of people and roles in the NeIC community is central to good access control. The list of individuals on contract to current NeIC activities is available here:
Projects may also engage additional personnel, like temporary replacements and short-term engagements. Such information is available on the project's internal wiki page, like for example:
These lists are maintained by the project leaders. The ADM coordinator has the responsibility to follow up regularly that access rights are up to date, and in particular that accounts and group memberships are revoked when a person's engagement with NeIC is over.
Wiki policy
NeIC runs a number of wikis for various purposes, notably the external wiki, the internal wiki, and the wips.
In short:
- The external wiki is world readable, editable only by NeIC staff and a few trusted external parties, and is used for dissemination.
- The internal wiki is readable and editable only by people who are engaged in current NeIC activities, and is used as a collaboration platform and to control access to the other wikis.
- The wips are private temporary wikis, used by potential partners from various organizations across the Nordics, for example to collaboratively develop new concrete proposals for collaborations. Area coordinators are responsible for wip creation and deletion. The executive team and the invited collaborators on each wip have administrator, bureaucrat and editor rights, and are free to invite more collaborators to the wip.
Groups
Groups are used to manage user rights on the wiki. For example, the Administrators and Bureaucrats groups control account creation and access rights (among other things).
The internal wiki uses PrivatePageProtection to control access to content, but please read the disclaimer on that page before using the extension. In particular, pages will not be protected against technically skilled users, and information may accidentally leak through various facilities like search and page history. Groups are of the following form:
- neic-xt: "Executive team only" pages and wips.
- neic-xxt: "Extended Executive team only" pages and wips, which includes executive team and project leaders.
- *-sf: draft stakeholder forum documents.
- *-sg: draft project steering group documents.
- *-pm: project management documents.
Use of other groups to restrict access to content is discouraged.
The ADM coordinator has the responsibility to follow up regularly that these groups are up to date.
