NeIC: NeIC has new funding, resource policy updated, development talks with Dan, news articles on NeIC website SNICcloud : >100 nodes to new Smog, two different types of storage, HPC2N has new harw. coming. Kubernetes Progress in Norway, Olli has access to Norwegian Kubernetes over HAKA.

AIM1: Supporting the creation of sustainable, affordable cloud IaaS services in the Nordics.

Target 1: Federation management and identity management.

  • start working on EduGain access to data.deic.dk and Lifeportal AP on Dan to formulate plan (bulletpoints)

AIM2: A collaboration platform for dataintensive computations

Target 1 Kubernetes and Nordic Ubernetes setup

  • Gurvinder review
  • Launch Kubernetes cluster (in cPouta) with a few commands using Magnum (Risto gave review). Uninett approach is diffferent in the sense they do not run OpenStack while the Magnum based system is run on OpenStack. Consequently not something Trondheim will yet consider. However Ola Spjuths use case could be a potential target and Tryggve personnel has tested it out.

AIM3: Mapping out future generations of hybrid einfrastructure

Target 1: Scalable Provisioning of Virtual Clusters

  • Salman: Simlin openstack project for orchestration, or use ubernetes
  • Get together physically with Stig Telfer after summer get Sebastian v A. joining
  • Chat meeting every other week.

AP on Salman to produce "bulletpoint" list of steps.

Target 2: BareMetal Resources Provisioning C3SE will do a pilot

Target 3: Investigating SRIOV for Private Cloud Infrastructures

- Fredrik gave a review of Azure Gromacs IB testing report at [link] promising results. Looks like MPI based jobs could really run with "decent" messaging speed between nodes.

AIM4: Establish a Nordic support channel for cloud and datascience including development of material and a curriculum for coordinated technical training efforts.

Target 1: Nordic support channel for cloud and dataanalytics

  • email already introduced. Self hosted forums would have to evaluate if it's worth to the effort to maintain it.
  • For long term move it to Dellinger

Discussion on mailing list vs. forum. needs further thought. Schedule discussion topic for next meeting.

SMHI:s Lars Berggrens team getting cloud accounts. Intention to start testing Arome on Azure.

Meeting with Ola Spjuth in June. Looks very promising.
