https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gcvEBcdQteyHteTzA_9keZ3ll7dKi4-fhDhbTLYYBcs/edit#

The benefits and responsibilities were discussed. Michaela defined the scope of the benefits analysis as: everything we gain in terms of moneys saved, time gains and quality improvements.

Discussion Benefits:

  • A flexible ecosystem for Nordic research needs to be embedded into an even larger Research infrastructure, otherwise there’ll always be the problem that maintenance and continued development is almost neglected or no longer possible. Even if the intended responsible might be interested, there might still be the actual ability to do something missing.
  • It should be enough to identify synergies for Glenna2, exploring them is already next step.
  • Also the # of projects formed and financed is an important outcome, Glenna2 is not the sole reason there, but it is also contributing to the success of project proposal in the Nordic countries within EOSC and H2020. This is a qualitative benefit. Could also be seen in a NeIC wide context.

Discussion Business case:

  • Consumer clouds will be a significant component of Géant T4.3.

Discussion Valuation: Curve for net gain is not linear, long start-up phase within Glenna1 to get partners on the same level, now e.g. the IaaS services are comparable, in production and with a decent degree of maturity, and after Glenna2 it would be again the question if all effort put in can be calculated as pure gain or it might flatten out if too large, but Glenna2 building on Glenna1 is indeed very favored in that aspect.

Glenna2 RG 19-06 First draft Benefit realisation plan

Discussion:

  • How to make Glenna2 known to a wider audience, a wider user community like e.g. the European Weather Cloud. NeIC does not want to compete with its own partners, the NeIPs (National e-Infrastructure Providers), but not doing more advertisement is a missed opportunity.
  • The example of Switzerland and SWITCH (engines) cloud. SWITCH federates over two sites nationally, which could serve as a model for the Nordics, albeit SWITCH does not provide services outside Switzerland.

Glenna2 RG 19-07 NeIC announcements and NeIC2019 invitation

  • Open Call https://neic.no/news/2019/01/17/annual-open-invitation/
    • Comment: good idea to switch to an open call process, but very rushed process for the actual application time.
    • AP Michaela to keep Ola and Dan and Norwegian partners in the loop in case of an AI workshop in preparation for the Open Call
