Project status and workshop statistics

Invoiced workshops

Discuss partner contributions from ETAIS/EE and DeiC/DK

  • DK: two team members in place, some of the problems solved, good dialogues held. 0.25 FTEs currently missing as well as for the last few months.
  • Moving the time-shifted budget poses a challenge.
  • Decision: The Steering Group supports an official request to DK to contribute person months as according to the initial budget and/or transfer part of the budget until the end of the project to some of the acting volunteers within CodeRefinery.
  • Action point for project manager: contact the group leader with copy project member and DK steering group member and ask whether they have resources to fill the 0.25 FTE for 2021 and if not whether they are comfortable with moving the budget to another party (e.g. Aalto University Scientific Computing).
  • Shifting funding to Aalto University Scientific Computing might need an amendment to the collaboration agreement declaring that they are a partner in CodeRefinery.
  • Decision: The SG approves a potential amendment to the collaboration agreement adding Aalto University Scientific Computing as additional partner in case that there is budget for them. Any amendment is to be circulated with SG members.
  • For ETAIS/EE: Action point for Project owner to contact ETAIS. If staff cannot be allocated within 30 days we will suggest that they withdraw from the project for the time being.

Future of the GitLab service

  • Options are: Shut it down at the end of the project funding, or continue at DeiC or run at ETAIS. If other options do not work out, we can consider running this service in Norway.
  • Action point for project manager: Organize a video meeting with (potential) service providers to discuss the GitLab continuation options.

Mid-term report

  • Draft: https://hackmd.io/VsCubRQAT1yo0Ca_KFolBw?view
  • See also: https://coderefinery.github.io/manuals/
  • Todo: Shorten current draft and add workshop data
  • Highlights:
    • Scaling up when everyone else was scaling down
    • RSE focus
    • Collaboration with Carpentries: Instructure training used very well within codeRefinery, centrally organized workshops: not enough buy-in from national partners, but new regulation in place, will end one month after CodeRefinery project. More details found in the reference group meeting minutes attached to

  • Things to highlight: good feedback that the project received, Research Software Hour, and

https://neic.no/news/2020/06/29/better-science-through-better-software/

  • The PM will present the midway report to the NeIC Board.
  • Action point for project manager: Provide and updated version in doc format next week.
  • Action point for steering group: Please provide further comments on the midterm report and send them to the PM.

Any other business
